Senior Grant Writer
Development
Definition: The Senior Grant Writer will report directly to the Foundation Relations Manager. The Senior Grant Writer will assist in meeting robust organizational fundraising goals through private and corporate foundation giving and government funding. Primary duties include research to identify corporate and foundation funding prospects, proposal requests, collaboration with the PLN program staff to gather information and communicate initiatives to funders, and grants monitoring and management.
Duties:
- Conduct research to identify corporate and foundation funding prospects that share the goals and objectives of PLN. Analyze fit between the funder, PLN, and the project to be funded.
- Create funding proposals, budgets, support documents, and reports for foundations and corporations.
- Regularly review Requests for Proposals and other funding opportunities as they become available.
- Strategize and conceptualize proposal requests. Recommend strategies for each funder, including talking points for the Director of Foundation, VP of Development and President/CEO.
- Conduct research on the need for services, best practices, and other topics to support proposals.
- Prepare senior management for direct solicitation of donors for specific grant opportunities and site visits, including talking points and foundation files.
- Work closely with PLN’s program directors and staff to gather data on program objectives, methods, evaluated outcomes, client populations, budgets, and staff to use in the development of proposals and effective communication of PLN’s programs to funders.
- Attend meetings with PLN’s senior management and program staff to keep abreast of new programs, initiatives and funding needs.
- Assist with developing and maintaining effective, long-term working relationship with grantors to facilitate approvals of grants.
- Work closely with PLN Grant Writer to monitor and manage grants. Provide information for tracking database of proposal submissions, schedule of reports, and mailed appeals.
- Support the Director of Foundation Relations with clerical tasks such as filing, copying, and mailing of completed requests and reports.
Qualifications:
Education and experience:
- Minimum of three to five years of experience in successful private sector cultivation/grantsmanship in health and social services: private sector experience required; government sector experience preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree; Graduate degree preferred

Special Requirements:
- Must have a reliable automobile for use on the job (mileage to be reimbursed). Valid California Driver License. State required automobile insurance coverage.
- TB clearance, to be renewed every two years.

Approximately 50% of time is spent sitting, while frequently required to walk, stand and bend. Must be able to talk and hear well. Good vision is imperative. Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Employee will be required to lift and/or move unassisted up to 25 pounds.
Starting Salary: $5,000.00 monthly, depending on education and experience
Status: Exempt / Full-time
