Job Description

This role is split between two functions – Reader’s Digest Association corporate communications and the Reader’s Digest Foundation. The leader in this position will conceive and execute a new social responsibility program to address a national need in line with the Reader’s Digest Foundation mission and generate positive press.  This position will manage the Reader’s Digest Foundation’s employee programs and oversee the day-to-day operations to engage employees in volunteer activities, demonstrate good corporate citizenship, as well as provide strategic support to Corporate Communication special projects.

Responsibilities

Manage the Reader’s Digest Foundation social responsibility efforts, employee programs and operations as well as the Company’s Corporate Contributions Function and Corporate Communications special projects

 Reader’s Digest Foundation

Help identify and execute a social responsibility program through the Reader’s Digest Foundation that will align with the Company’s mission and what it stands for, elevate our position as a good corporate citizen and engage employees

Utilize PR, Marketing and Social Media tools to foster interest and awareness of RDF activities

Manage and energize the employee volunteer program, RDA Cares

Manage all aspects of the administration of the Employee Matching Gift and Volunteer Incentive Program in the U.S.

Serve as an officer of the Foundation Board and oversee all Foundation fiduciary obligations for investment portfolio, bank accounts, budgets, tax returns, disbursement of funds, board resolutions and audits to ensure they are keeping with IRS regulations.

Ensure the board meetings and election of officers take place on schedule and prepare agendas, resolutions and background materials for meetings

Oversee administration elements of both the Foundation and Corporate giving programs by managing a program assistant and outside financial consultant.

 Corporate Communications

Provide communications support including writing, presentation research and design, event management and counseling to executives and business units

Draft press releases and internal memos for corporate announcements and Foundation projects

Run focus groups, surveys and use other tools to assist in the development of strategic internal communication and volunteering programs

Establish and leverage partnerships with global PR, Marketing and HR to drive social responsibility  and employee engagement programs

Required Skills

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required.  Degree in Social Work a plus, 10+ years in corporate foundation, corporate citizenship or similar non-profit experience required.  Demonstrable record of managing budgets, working with non-profit organizations and boards, and experience in community affairs and philanthropy a must.  Must have knowledge of Foundation-IRS regulations.  Excellent communication skills required, including media relations and PR skills, excellent writing skills for executive messages, speeches, presentations and announcements.  Knowledge of social media and design skills a plus. Detail-oriented, ability to work independently, a team player and able to work within tight deadlines.  Strong interpersonal skills required.
