    To support the efforts of refugee women and children to achieve self-sufficiency in the United States by providing education and economic opportunity.

    BILINGUAL CASEWORKER (Financial Education Specialist/School Liaison)

    Schedule: Full Time
    Preferred language: Karen or Kirundi

    Job Summary:

    This caseworker will help refugee women to develop social independence and self-sufficiency by providing workshops and follow-up visits on topics such as household budgeting, finances, banking, and building credit.

    The caseworker will also provide refugee parents with education, interpretation and advocacy services, improving parental involvement and strengthening communication with schools and other RFS programs serving children and youth.

    Skills /Competencies/Education/Experience:

    Required:

    • Sensitivity to all cultural backgrounds, religion and nationalities.
    • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work and relate to children.
    • Good written and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to interpret and translate fluently from English to at least one refugee language and vice versa.
    • Must be responsible, always on time.  
    • A valid Driver’s license, insured vehicle and drive own vehicle.
    • Computer competency in MS Windows, MS Word. (Test will be administered.)
    • Submit to criminal background check.
    • Willingness and ability to speak in public.
    • High school diploma/equivalency and/or experience working with refugees.

    Preferred:

    • Knowledge of U.S. School System.
    • Two years of experience working with refugee clients.

    Major Job Responsibilities:

    • Organize and coordinate educational activities for refugee women on: opening and managing bank accounts, household budgets and credit, etc.
    • Plan and prepare agendas and pre/post testing for training and workshops.
    • Provide interpretation/translation and transportation as needed in service provision (workshop presentation, follow up services, parent-school engagements and home visits).
    • Conduct workshops at public schools and other educational agencies about refugee cultures and the needs of refugee children.
    • Maintain client case files, database and submit all required reports.
    • Perform other duties and assignments as required.
