The Rubin Museum of Art, opened October, 2004, is a non-profit cultural and educational institution dedicated to the collection, preservation, exhibition, and publication of Himalayan Art.
The Programming Coordinator is responsible for implementing programs, events and activities to highlight the museum exhibitions, create public activity within the museum and to draw public attention to the function and purpose of the museum as a center for Himalayan art and as a cultural focus for the Chelsea area of Manhattan.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Coordinate the regular Spiral Music, Lunch Matters, Cabaret Cinema and other programs as required, including scheduling, processing invoices, and other administrative duties
- Advance all music shows, process contracts
- Supervise the maintenance of the performance spaces; stage management and occasional heavy lifting required
- Travel arrangements for artists
- Negotiate licenses with vendors and artists.
- Research co-presenters for various public programs and coordinate contracts and work collaboratively with these to develop the most effective methods to disseminate information about programmatic activities
- Research and retain introducers and discussion moderators.
- Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:-
- Bachelor’s degree.
- 2-3 years professional experience in the arts
- Strong editorial, written, verbal and interpersonal skills required to deal with the public and with internal colleagues
- Ability to actively promote RMA programs through the development of positive working relationships within and outside the Museum.
- Strong MS Office skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Some knowledge of Asian cultures desirable.
- Excellent organizational skills and an eye for detail.
- A self starter and team player with a “can do” attitude.
- Excellent judgment and interpersonal skills.
- Strategic as well as tactical thinking skills.
