Aramark Volunteers in Cleveland Inspire Women to Lead Healthier Lives

According to estimates from the National Center for Health Statistics, more than 60 percent of U.S. adult women are overweight, and have a greater risk for heart disease, stroke, diabetes, high blood pressure and other health issues.

To help women focus on their health and lead healthier lives, Aramark employees recently joined other health care service providers for the Friendly Inn First Annual Women’s Health Expo “It’s All About You.”  

Aramark chefs, dietitians and other volunteers encouraged women to be “healthy for life” in Cleveland. Volunteers led programs such as “meet your veggies and whole grains,” offering fresh sautéed vegetables and other food samples, along with recipes and nutrition information. The Aramark culinary team also served “Walking Tacos,” – a healthy take on a to-go taco featuring ground turkey and baked tortilla chips.

“Families attending the fair were really excited to sample the food and talk about nutrition,” said Kevin Strub, Food Service Director, for Aramark’s K-12 Education division in Ohio. “It’s so gratifying to know that we can make a real difference in someone’s life.”

About 300 people attended the expo, which featured health awareness sessions, community resources, healthy activities, food and prizes.
