Samsung Electronics North America launched the Samsung emPOWER Tomorrow program, an after-school initiative created to inspire fourth- and fifth-grade girls to pursue opportunities in engineering and computer science. The spring pilot program spanned for five weeks at Newark Public Schools’ Miller Street School in Newark, N.J., and culminated on June 12th in a final showcase event where students shared their learnings with parents, educators, and members of the community. During the program, students met with Samsung computer scientists, learned about influential female scientists, experimented with coding and electric circuits, and made real-world connections between computer science and electrical engineering and their lives. Additionally, Samsung donated Chromebooks to the school, used in the pilot program.
