General Information
About Amanda:
I am a 24 year old recent college graduate. I earned a very well rounded degree in interior design at Purdue, which is where I first started learning about sustainable design. Being that my first passion in life is the environment, I immediately indulged myself in learning about sustainable design on a holistic level instead of restricting my knowledge to just "green building". I learned much of what I know about renewable and efficient energy systems as well as innovative wastewater systems from studying the LEED-NC reference guide and taking a graduate course in sustainable design. Beyond that, I have become proactive in my personal time by reading such books as the "Philosophy of Sustainable Design" and "Cradle to Cradle" and by becoming a LEED-AP. I am also familiar with "The Natural Step" and strongly feel that with more awareness, the United States will start to see the emergence of hundreds of eco-municipalities in the very near future. Several communities in Wisconsin, where I live now, have already signed pledges to become more sustainable communities.
I currently am working at a design/build firm that is very knowledgable in the field of sustainability, having been doing it since the early 1990's. I am getting invaluable experience in interior and architectural design on a handful of LEED projects, both for Schools and New Construction. I have also had the opportunity to run daylight caclulations through the use of daylight modeling software.
