My name is Dan Sadowsky. I am a high-school social studies teacher with eight years of experience teaching American and world history, as well as electives in anthropology and law and human rights. I have interests in a wide variety of academic areas, as evidenced by a college career that took me from engineering to eventual bachelor’s degrees in anthropology and music, and then to social studies education as a profession. I am a passionate NPR listener, I love to bike, and I long to see more of the country and the world than my past situation has allowed.
While teaching world history and advising the Model United Nations Club at my school, I developed an interest in global affairs of both the past and the present. I take great enjoyment in teaching my students how nations and peoples interact across borders, and I relish broadening my own knowledge with each year of teaching. As I became involved with the Model UN Club, I grew increasingly envious of the opportunity this provided for my students to learn and experience global affairs. This led me to enroll in the NYU Summer Institute in Global Affairs in 2007 and earn the Certificate in Global Affairs.
Over the past year, armed with the knowledge from last summer, I’ve become a more effective teacher and Model UN adviser. As much as I enjoy teaching, however, I would like to explore other non-teaching career options in the near future. I have not definitively identified my primary area of interest yet, though global education, (particularly civics education), sustainable development, and public/private sector cooperation are three specialties I am considering.
