Every month for two years is a Month of Change – Change Your Lighting, Change Your Insulation, Change Your Ride, etc. Schools sell calendars as a fund-raiser to families and businesses, with discount coupons to consumers and rebates to schools for green purchases. Commitment starts easy with lightbulbs and ends up with Change Your Roof, Electric Power, Car, Hot Water, other costly items. In 24 months we‘ll drop the carbon footprint of homes and businesses by 50% and our kids can take credit for the transformation.

About Dave:	This is the third big social change project in my life. In the 60's and 70's I worked in Family Planning and Environment programs in East Asia. I left Asia because my son has cerebral palsy and needed to be in the US. So I shifted gears and started going around to schools teaching juggling with slow-moving nylon scarves as a way to raise kids self esteem. Now it is time for another big project. My colleagues and I will be working at the leading edge of the greening of America by using the only unlimited resource that exists, the power of children to be a positive force in the World. I've assembled a crew of 15 professionals who will be helping to test the Two Years to Change program in about 12 schools in 3 states. Then it will be introduced nationwide in every school that wants to participate. Here is how the program operates - Every month for two years will be a Month of Change with a different theme. Schools use our planner/coupon book as a fund-raiser. Kids sell them to neighbors. In Change Your Lighting Month families get a discount to buy energy saving bulbs. For every ten bulbs bought by a school the school gets one 8-foot fluorescent tube. A typical school will buy thousands of bulbs from local businesses and get hundreds of tubes. In Change Your Insulation Month families weatherstrip doors and caulk or put reflective film on windows, or replace old insulation in the attic. Schools get credit from sponsoring stores for insulation products. Schools win with the fund-raiser and the free products. Kids win because they get to help their family save money and their school get stuff it needs. Communities win because homes and schools go green. National sponsors and local stores win because they make sales. We all win because 100,000 schools and 50,000,000 families reduce their carbon footprint. We will pre-test the Two Years to Change program in at least 12 elementary or middle schools in at least three states for the 2009-2010 school year. As a result by June 2010 we will be ready for a nationwide roll-out of the program. The expected result in these 12 schools will be a significant reduction in carbon footprint for thousands of families, and adoption of numerous energy-saving steps by schools. This will also prove the efficacy of this program to potential commercial sponsors and to mayors, governors and national government officials who will be asked to support the nationwide roll-out.
