As a Reynolds Fellow, Lizzie plans to further
develop a methodology for children and young
adults that employs the performing arts as a
medium for social change—a powerful tool
for facilitating dialogue, expressing emotion,
and creating awareness of social issues
within schools, neighborhoods, and larger
communities. Lizzie believes that interdisciplinary learning through
the arts is a key method to engage and mold change-makers within
today’s youth.
Lizzie graduated summa **** laude from Villanova University in May
2006 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration,
focusing on management, ethics, and leadership. Graduating first
in her program, she received the Bartley Medallion for Excellence in
Management for her scholarship and service to the University.
While at the University, Lizzie was one of the first undergraduate
students to be awarded an opportunity to complete funded research
that focused on partnerships between businesses and schools in the
Philadelphia area. The Report, “School and Business Partnerships:
An Exploratory Research Report,” studies the challenges and
successes of these initiatives, as well as the views of influential
business leaders within the area.
Lizzie’s interest in educational equity began with her ties to the
School District of Philadelphia. As a chairperson of the Villanova
Service Learning Community, she worked alongside a dedicated
leadership team to create relationships between organizations and
schools in Philadelphia’s Logan neighborhood and the Villanova
University student body. With an interdisciplinary approach to
learning, reflection, and action, the two communities continue to
integrate resources and learn from each other to affect social change.
A performer herself, Lizzie is most inspired by those artists who
understand the satisfaction and importance of sharing their talents
not only on the stage, but also with children and young adults who
have limited exposure to the arts.
Lizzie recently served as the Assistant Manager of Corporate Relations
at The New York Public Library. She is also a freelance writer.
