| About Issac: |
Isaac Rowlett is majoring in Genocide Studies, Human Rights, and Conflict Resolution in the
Gallatin School for Individualized Study at NYU.
His mission is to help render genocide extinct.
Isaac first became interested in politics and
human rights when studying climate change
during his sophomore year of high school. Driven by a desire to support
environmentally sound politics, he spent his summers as a teen canvassing
for the Democratic National Committee and the Wisconsin Public
Interest Research Group, where he eventually became the co-director of
WISPIRG’s Milwaukee office. As co-director of WISPIRG, Isaac learned
the importance of participatory democracy and grassroots activism in
effecting social change.
A critical juncture in Isaac’s development was his experience on the March
of the Living, a trip he took as a high school senior that brought him face
to face with former concentration camps, mass graves, and what were the
Jewish ghettos of Poland. The experience fundamentally changed Isaac
and led him to speak out about the genocide in Darfur. After attending the
second ever STAND (Students Taking Action Now Darfur) conference in
August 2005, Isaac matriculated at NYU and co-founded STAND @ NYU.
Isaac has since served continuously as co-president of STAND @ NYU
and has produced numerous fundraising events, general publicity and
advocacy forums.
In the Spring of 2006, Isaac took a leave of absence from NYU to help lead
the Sudan Freedom Walk, a march that publicized the horrors of slavery,
civil war and genocide in southern Sudan and Darfur. The extensive march
started at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City and ended at
the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C.. |
