I am a recent graduate from Connecticut College where I majored in Sociology based Human Relations and Hispanic Studies with a minor in English. I was extremely involved there and gained some great experience, from organizing and running a new Middle Eastern Club to studying abroad in Seville, Spain where I also had an intership over the summer with a NGO for immigrants.
Currently I am a corps member of AmeriCorps*National Civilian Community Corps which is a government funded service program that works on various projects in the U.S. with a team of young adults addressing immediate community needs in homeland security, disaster relief, the environment, youth development and unmet human needs. The program involves working effectively with individuals from and in communities of diverse cultural, ethnic, economic, geographic and educational backgrounds. Presently, my main role as a corps member is to supervise volunteers working with Habitat for Humanity of New Orleans, Louisiana. My goal is to demonstrate and assign tasks and engage volunteers in the ultimate goal of rebuilding the Upper Ninth Ward and Musicians Village. Through NCCC, I have worked with United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program and at an elementary school in Sacramento, CA; a multicultural, multilingual and underprivileged population.
I would describe myself as a young and educated woman with a passion for working to make changes, empowering others and connecting communities. I am a flexible, efficient and diligent employee who works well with others. I am interested in eventually returning to school to obtain a Masters in Social Work, but until then I am interested in continuing service work through a nonprofit or government agency.
