Joshua Levin is interested in international development and social enterprise using
applicable information technology and
educational solutions, particularly at the
juncture of diminishing poverty and emergent
environmental conservation.
Joshua’s vision has been informed by his multiple work experiences
in Asia and his academic research on development, social capital,
and social control in northwestern China. Recently he worked in
Cambodia for Conservation International where he tracked and
monitored endangered species. Joshua was inspired by the successes
and failures of cross-cultural leadership as well as the difficulties of
practicing environmental conservation in poverty-stricken regions.
Determined to hone his management and entrepreneurial skills,
Joshua launched RedKey Education in 2004, a private education
services business in Cambridge, MA. RedKey sells in-home tutoring
services, develops contractor-management and distance-learning
web technologies to improve both quality and reach of affordable
one-on-one educational instruction.
Joshua’s educational expertise was finely tuned with his experience
as a Business Associate for HSA, Harvard Student Agencies (the
largest student-run corporation in the country). Managing a tutoring
center for test-preparation, Joshua made key decisions about human
resources, marketing, logistics, and finance. As part of the same
program he managed an expatriate staff in South Korea and composed
the SAT I manual for international use.
As a Field Officer for Conservation International in Phnom Penh/Koh
Kong, Cambodia, Joshua developed an endangered species monitoring
program by tracking, visually recorded and documenting endangered
species populations in the Cardamom Mountains wilderness.
Joshua’s ability to successfully fuse his teaching experience with his
environmental knowledge was put into practice when he designed and
taught environmental education classes to Khmer military personnel
in remote bases. He also assisted American Special Forces personnel
in teaching a counter-poaching law enforcement class to Khmer
military police.
Through his MBA study, Joshua hopes to cultivate the tools to develop
and launch social enterprise projects integral to international trade
of goods and services to provide sustainable options for communities
living in or around threatened ecosystems.
