I recently graduated from Yale University with a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering. Both my high school, Punahou School, and Yale are dedicated to sustainability and “being green.” Attending these schools has had a great influence on me and has made me conscious of our impact on the environment. I want to be part of a company that is devoted to helping others integrate sustainable living into their lives and businesses through small and progressive changes.
My main extracurricular activity at Yale was participating on the Varsity Women’s Golf Team. I was a member of the traveling team for all four years of my college career. During my sophomore year, our team won the Ivy League Championship and qualified for an NCAA tournament.
At Yale, I constantly challenged myself in academics and athletics. I chose to major in Biomedical Engineering because I knew that it would be difficult and it would develop my analytical and problem solving skills. The courses demanded a lot of independent research and mathematical modeling, skills that are transferable to this position. Participating in a NCAA Division I sport has improved my work ethic and my ability to work with teammates. My challenging academic workload combined with my demanding tournament and practice schedules has helped me to develop time management skills.
What kind of positive change do you want to create in the world over the next 12 months?:
I want to reduce the amount of waste, starting in California. I would then want to expand this goal to the rest of the United States, one state at a time.
