Mel Ochoa plans to apply his experience with corporate and nonprofit marketing to start an
international venture philanthropy fund to
enable the next big ideas in youth development.
The fund would focus on education, health and
the appreciation of art, science, music and
world cultures.
Mel is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, where
he received a B.A. with majors in History and Rhetoric. He spent
four years as vice president of corporate affairs and a co-founder of
BridgePath, an enterprise software provider to the staffing industry.
At BridgePath, he was responsible for the company’s public relations
strategy, recruiting and internal operations. Under his direction,
BridgePath was featured in The Wall Street Journal, Time, Red
Herring,
National Public Radio, BusinessWeek, Business 2.0 and more than
130 publications. BullHorn, Inc. acquired BridgePath in 2002.
Mel’s past experience also includes work for a U.S. congressman in
Washington, D.C., Kraft Foods, and at Schwartz Communications, a
leading high-tech PR agency.
Prior to graduate school, Mel was the acting director of marketing at
the Bay Area Discovery Museum in Sausalito, California – a family
destination dedicated to art, science and hands-on fun for children
up to 8 years old.
Mel is active with several non-profit organizations, including the
Boys & Girls Clubs, lovefutbol.org, Building Readiness in Tomorrow’s
Entrepreneurs, and Global Degree, an e-journal on globalization.
As its editor, he has interviewed global mavericks bringing peddlepowered
computers to the jungles of Laos, introducing Spider-Man to
India, and branding entire countries. He has also instructed archery
for Cub Scouts, led entrepreneurship classes for
