Michael Allen Howard earned a BA from the University of Illinois in Psychology and an MS from Lamar University in Industrial/Organizational Psychology. He wrote his master’s thesis on The Effects of Realistic Job Previews on Job Satisfaction and Turnover. During graduate school he completed consulting assignments for clients such as Gulf States Utilities (analyzed the effectiveness of their training program) and the Port Arthur Police Department (validated their testing procedures for new hires). Michael continued consulting upon graduation for Norwegian American Hospital in Chicago where he rewrote all of the job descriptions and developed a criteria-based performance appraisal system that enabled his client to pass JCAHO inspection. He was then hired as Employment Specialist for Norwegian American Hospital where he recruited nurses and department managers in addition to developing and conducting the Employee Orientation Program. His next position was as Director of Human Resources with North Point Achievement Center. Michael conducted a job satisfaction survey and department communication meetings in order to increase job satisfaction and decrease turnover. In addition, he recruited staff, supervised benefits administration and was a proactive problem solver, resolving communication issues between management and staff. Michael then went into environmental advocacy (sales/PR) and worked for Greenpeace as he has always been passionate about environmental issues. He moved to Los Angeles and produced a benefit concert, raising money for EarthSave. He began recruiting again and worked with JobPlex, Inc. (a subsidiary of DHR International). Within 6 months Michael became one of the top recruiters in the company. He recently started his own company, Organic Recruiting, based in Beverly Hills, California. Organic Recruiting is an executive search firm that is committed to matching highly skilled executives with companies that are socially responsible or "green". Organic Recruiting also helps companies that are in the process of greening their organization by placing "green executives" in key roles. Finally, Organic Recruiting is strategically partnered with sustainability consultants as well as green marketing and green building professionals.
