I have decided on a career shift away from my current consulting business back toward solar and renewable energy, which has been my passion for many years. Teaching has been one of the greatest pleasures of my life. I began with the San Luis Solar Energy Association in Alamosa, Colorado back in 1979 and the peak of the solar movement. Since then, the movement went into decline, but I always remained engaged on a personal and professional level through my building contracting business, by specializing in alternative building systems and technologies and participating in sustainable community affairs such as Earth Day organizing and helping friends and families to build sustainably or install solar systems. I also taught residential construction at the community college here in Clarkdale, and specialized the course with emphasis on alternative systems and efficiency, and RE systems
My current business has been developing energy strategies for Indian Tribes including a lot of renewable energy resource analysis and feasibility work. With luck, some of these efforts may see the construction of large-scale solar and wind projects on tribal land. My primary business has been project management consulting on federally funded community facilities construction projects.
In looking at my current career path, although satisfying, it does not offer the opportunity to teach and engage with people that are energized about sustainable living as much as I would like. My sense of my capability is that there isn’t anything that I can’t do, just a number of things I haven’t done yet.
As for the future, I am open to what opportunities and experiences may present themselves in the movement toward sustainability. So I am just "putting it out there" that I am available and looking to engage with energized and talented people with the same values and direction.
What kind of positive change do you want to create in the world over the next 12 months?:
I would like to be a part of an effort to demonstrate how mankind can live in peace with each other and with our environment. To me, sustainability is simply living within our means. I recognize that is a monumental shift from the current practice of 99.9
