Dozens of UTC Volunteers and Thousands of Toys Make the Season Brighter for Connecticut Families

On Friday, Dec. 12, more than 100 volunteers from across the company supported UTC's $80,000 donation to the 2014 Marine Corps Toys for Tots campaign in Connecticut. As UTC celebrates 34 years partnering with Toys for Tots, this year set a record for volunteer attendance - with three opportunities to help - leaving many employee participants feeling they got more than they gave.

Wearing UTC "Make Things Better" fleece jackets, 60 employee volunteers shopped for toys on Friday morning at Toys"R" Us stores in Manchester and Newington. Employees were given a budget and suggestions from the Marines taken from local children's wish lists. While many participating employees were new to this holiday volunteer opportunity, some were veteran shoppers from last year's event.

"My experience was unlike any other and the feeling within can't be duplicated," said Karen Weal, Senior Tax Anlyst, UTC Corporate. "My interaction with my fellow UTC co-workers is usually via email or over the phone. It was nice to meet face-to-face with a common goal of helping those who are less fortunate at such a joyous time of the year."
