Global and Local Leaders Take Stock of Business Progress Towards Sustainable Development in Latin America and the Caribbean

Nearly 600 local and global leaders from business, finance, civil society, Government, Global Compact Local Networks and the UN attended Making Global Goals Local Business – Argentina from 25-26 April in Buenos Aires. The annual regional event was organized to underscore the impact of multi-stakeholder partnerships and responsible business action in support of the UN Global Goals.

UN Secretary-General appoints Bola Adesola, CEO of Standard Chartered Bank Nigeria, and Paul Polman, CEO of Unilever as new UN Global Compact Board Vice-Chairs

UN Secretary-General António Guterres announced the appointment of Bola Adesola and Paul Polman to serve as new Vice-Chairs of the Board of the United Nations Global Compact on 20 April 2018.

Adesola and Polman succeed out-going Vice-Chair of the UN Global Compact Board, Sir Mark Moody-Stuart, Former Chairman of Royal Dutch/Shell Group of Companies and of Anglo American plc. The Secretary-General extended his appreciation to Sir Mark for serving in the position for the past ten years and guiding the UN Global Compact into a new era.

Latin American Leaders Discuss the Role of Business in Sustainable Production and Consumption Patterns

On 19 April in Santiago, the UN Global Compact and the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) convened leaders from business, Governments, civil society and the UN in Chile to discuss the role of the business sector in generating sustainable production and consumption patterns in Latin America and the Caribbean.
