(3BL Media / theCSRfeed) Madison, WI - March 22, 2011 - Leonardo Academy is inviting all interested parties to provide comment on the draft Standard for Sustainable Electronic Gaming Machines (LEO 8000).

The Standard for Sustainable Electronic Gaming Machines (LEO 8000) was developed under the rules of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). The goal of this process has been to help the gaming industry identify and communicate the sustainability parameters of their products and services and to allow industry purchasers to identify their sustainability preferences when purchasing gaming equipment and services. The standard development committee has developed comprehensive frameworks and sustainability metrics that assess environmental, social, and economic performance at all levels of the gaming industry’s supply and delivery chain and encourages continuous improvement in overall sustainability performance. Key components in the standard include energy use and emission reductions, as well as the procurement and use of more sustainable materials throughout the supply chain.   This is a voluntary standard and aims to engage the competitive market in driving the development of a green economy and bringing sustainability to new market sectors. Voluntary standards are important tools for driving change because they allow stakeholders from all levels of interest to get engaged in the standard development process.   The standard development committee is comprised of individuals and organizations representing the entire supply and delivery chain for gaming products and services—including manufacturers, suppliers of goods and services to gaming companies and organizations and their operations, end users, government representatives, consumer groups, environmental organizations and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). This standard has been in development since April 2009.   Michael Arny, President of Leonardo Academy, explained, “We are extremely proud of the work that has been conducted on this standard and thank the committee for volunteering their time and expertise. The views represented by these highly qualified individuals characterize the many facets of the gaming industry and it is clear that the concepts being introduced will change how slot machines are designed in the future. Innovation and communication is critical in this industry and towards increased sustainability.”   To review a copy of the draft standard and guidelines on how to evaluate the document, please click here.   For additional information, contact John Rodgers at Leonardo Academy (Tel: 608-280-0255, Email: jrodgers@leonardoacademy.org). Reference information about the standard is available at: https://sites.google.com/site/sustainablegamingstandard/.
