HOUSTON, June 2, 2015 /3BL Media/ – CITGO Petroleum Corporation and CITGO Marketer Sun Coast Resources together helped raise more than $140,000 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s (MDA) Houston chapter during the 20th annual Jonathan Clements Texas Golf Tournament.

“CITGO has been an active supporter of MDA since 1986.  Over the last 20 years, the Jonathan Clements Texas Golf Tournament has raised $1.3 million to benefit the Houston MDA chapter, and during the course of our sponsorship, CITGO has raised more than $170 million for the MDA,” said Alan Flagg, assistant vice president of supply and marketing for CITGO. “By raising funds, we can help the MDA continue its much needed research, comprehensive health care and support services, advocacy and education.”

Approximately 350 attendees participated in the event either by playing in the golf tournament or taking part in a concurrent Texas Hold‘em tournament, both of which were followed by dinner and a raffle. Miss Texas Monique Evans was also on hand to greet attendees.

As the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s largest corporate sponsor, CITGO has made it a priority to raise funds to help provide health care services and support for MDA families nationwide. The continued involvement of CITGO, which is based in Houston, in the Jonathan Clements Texas Golf Tournament has allowed the company to further demonstrate that commitment in its own backyard.

Support of this tournament is just one of the many ways that CITGO has demonstrated its deep and abiding concern for the health and wellbeing of all people. CITGO, its refineries, its Marketers and Retailers and their employees are significant contributors to community programs and initiatives in Texas and across the country. In 2013, CITGO employees in Texas volunteered more than 6,600 hours of their personal time to local charities like the MDA Houston Chapter, the United Way of Coastal Bend and the Special Olympics Texas. Because of this deep-seeded commitment, every time customers visit a local CITGO gas station, they help CITGO give back to the communities it serves not only in Texas, but across the country.
