AKRON, Ohio, May 9, 2017 /3BL Media/ – The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has named GOJO, the inventors of PURELL® Hand Sanitizer and the leading global producer and marketer of skin health and hygiene solutions, as a 2017 Safer Choice Partner of the Year. GOJO will be honored at a ceremony in Washington, D.C., on May 15, 2017.

“The GOJO Purpose, Saving Lives and Making Life Better Through Well-Being Solutions, drives our commitment to solving real human problems and offering our customers gentle and effective hygiene solutions,” said Jessica McCoy, GOJO vice president and general manager, business development. “Living our Purpose not only has a positive impact on public health and the world in which we live, but it also allows us to find new ways to innovate to create Sustainable Value for all GOJO stakeholders. One such innovation is our PURELL® Surface Disinfecting and Sanitizing Sprays.”

GOJO developed its new PURELL® Surface Disinfecting and Sanitizing Sprays based on the principles of the Safer Choice program – developing a product that performs well and contains ingredients that meet strict safety criteria for both human health and the environment as determined by the EPA’s evaluation of the best available science. PURELL® Surface Disinfecting and Sanitizing Sprays are EPA Design for the Environment certified, which follows the principles of Safer Choice. Available for the Foodservice, Healthcare and Professional markets, PURELL® Surface Disinfecting and Sanitizing Sprays contain no harsh chemicals, while quickly killing germs including Norovirus, MRSA and cold and flu.

“The Safer Choice program’s focus on safer chemistry closely aligns with one of our own sustainability goals – reducing our own chemical footprint and elevating the safety profile of our portfolio of products,” added McCoy. “GOJO is the first and only company to publicly declare our commitment to advancing sustainable chemistry by reducing our chemical footprint, both through the elimination of chemicals of concern and through mindful substitution by 50 percent by 2020. Our relationship with the Safer Choice program has provided us with a platform to educate and encourage others to join us in taking a closer look at the ingredients in their products.”

About the Safer Choice Program

The Safer Choice program was developed in 1997 and draws upon chemical and environmental expertise from across EPA. EPA's Safer Choice program focuses on chemistry and identifying safer chemicals. When either the Safer Choice or Design for the Environment label appears on a product, it means that EPA has evaluated each ingredient in the product for potential human health and environmental effects and that--based on hazard and risk information, the latest models and predictive tools, and expert scientific judgment--the product contains only those ingredients that pose the least concern among chemicals in their class. Safer Choice works closely with companies to help them understand the chemistry of their products and to select safer alternatives to chemicals that pose potential health or environmental concerns.
