HOUSTON and SARASOTA, Fla., Feb. 14, 2013 / 3BL Media /PRNewswire/ -- CITGO Petroleum Corporation and local CITGO Marketer Mid-State Energy, Inc. recently recognized Sarasota Military Academy as one of the latest Fueling Good winners. The Florida non-profit received $5,000 in CITGO Gift Cards to carry out its mission of providing high school students the highest quality education by incorporating the principles of leadership, discipline, patriotism and honor in a military environment. The prize will help Sarasota Military Academy provide transportation for students to events such as state music and academic competitions and the Junior Olympics.

"Our 850 students come from very diverse socioeconomic backgrounds, but it is our priority to make sure that every student has the same opportunities, regardless of personal resources," said Riess Pellegrino, junior reserve officer training corps (JROTC) instructor at Sarasota Military Academy. "Thanks to CITGO and its Fueling Good Program, we can pay for the fuel we need to get our students to after-school educational development programs without the added financial burdens. Sarasota Military Academy is a public charter high school and part of the Sarasota County school system. The school blends normal school curriculum in a military environment to teach students discipline, leadership and patriotism. Sarasota Military Academy is also run in conjunction with the Army JROTC program.
