Romeoville, Ill., April 14, 2014 /3BL Media/ ─ On March 13, 306 CITGO Lemont Refinery employees and contractors raised more than $80,000 at the Fourth Annual Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) Shamrock Bowl. Held at Brunswick Zone in Romeoville, Ill., the event benefits the MDA and its muscular dystrophy advocacy, awareness, research and support services for families in Illinois. CITGO has proudly supported the MDA for the past 28 years and is MDA’s largest corporate sponsor.

“The ongoing support and partnership from the CITGO Lemont Refinery and their contractors is unsurpassed,” said April Elashik, Executive Director of the MDA Chicago-land offices.  “Each year, CITGO continues to make a difference for MDA with a variety of events including the Shamrock Bowl. We are so grateful for their hard work, dedication and commitment. The funds raised at this event will help send children to MDA summer camps and support MDA research and educational services.  Last year nearly 60 campers from the Chicago-land area enjoyed a week of barrier-free fun at no cost to their families thanks to the generosity of supporters like CITGO.  We are very appreciative of the continued assistance and partnership.”

The MDA Shamrock Bowl is one of several annual CITGO MDA fundraisers and is a highlight for Lemont Refinery employees because it gives them the opportunity to support life-saving research and meaningful social services to MDA while enjoying a night of camaraderie with their colleagues, friends and family.  More than 35 businesses, including the CITGO Lemont Refinery, Chellino Crane, Per Se Group, Midwest Valve Services, Genesis Marine, Repcon, Intertek, Centennial Energy, JM Electric, Turner and Sanchez Group, provided donations and other assistance to help break last year’s fundraising record of $65,000.

As MDA's largest corporate sponsor, CITGO has raised more than $160 million since 1986 to help provide health care services for MDA families nationwide and to rally local communities to raise awareness and help find treatments and cures for neuromuscular disease.

The CITGO Lemont Refinery employs more than 800 local residents on a full-time and contract basis in support of the local economy.  In addition to producing high quality fuels for a large portion of the network of nearly 6,000 locally-owned CITGO stations across the country, Lemont refinery employees also make a major positive impact on the community.  Each year, more than 2,500 volunteer hours and thousands of dollars are given in support of community programs such as Muscular Dystrophy Association, United Way and a variety of environmental and preservation programs.  For more information on the CITGO Lemont Refinery, visit www.citgorefining.com/Lemont.
