Feb. 23, 2015 /3BL Media/ - A ribbon-cutting ceremony at The Pediatric Critical Care Unit (PCCU) at the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM) will celebrate the official opening of the new Family Lounge, funded by EcoMedia – a CBS Company.

The new room provides a “home away from home,” offering parents and family members a place of solace during what can often be a stressful and anxious time as their children receive care for their complex medical needs. The room enhances the healthcare experience for caregivers by promoting the well-being of the whole family, enabling parents who are reluctant to leave the Critical Care Unit, to have some time for themselves while remaining close to their child’s bedside.

Funding from CBS EcoMedia and its WellnessAd Program enabled the renovation of the space into a family-friendly environment. This project enhanced a larger construction effort on the Critical Care Unit floor that expanded the number of patient rooms to meet increasing demand for children with life-threatening illnesses and medical conditions who need specialized care.

Approximately 1,500 children per year receive care at the PCCU at CHAM. One family who recently utilized the room during their child’s hospitalization is expected to attend the celebration.

WHY: Children recover best when their parents are able to be fully involved in their medical journey. The Family Lounge offers a dedicated space where parents and caregivers can take some time away from their child’s bedside to relax, eat meals, and catch up with phone calls and other responsibilities. It also provides a diversion for patients’ siblings.

WHEN: Tuesday, February 24, 2:00pm

WHO:  Families and patients who received care at the PCCU; Lewis P. Singer, M.D., chief, Division of Critical Care Medicine and Theresa Schieber, Senior Vice President of Strategic Partnerships, CBS EcoMedia
