New York, NY, October 8, 2014 /3BL Media/ – NPower and its skills-based volunteering program, The Community Corps, is collaborating with its partners at Symantec and Google on two high-impact workshops in New York City as part of Pro Bono Week 2014. Both workshops address timely topics for nonprofits and will provide these organizations with valuable tech skills that will vastly improve their operations.

“Since its founding, NPower has been focused on helping nonprofits use technology more effectively to do more social good,” said Stephanie Cuskley, CEO of NPower.  “We designed The Community Corps to give nonprofits and schools access to highly skilled tech volunteers to help increase their impact on the communities they serve. The Symantec and Google workshops we’ve created for Pro Bono Week 2014 exemplify the quality and expertise we deliver to our partnering organizations.”

Workshop 1: Cybersecurity for Nonprofits (Thursday Oct. 23rd from 11:30 am- 12:30 pm)

The Community Corps has teamed up with industry-leading experts from Symantec’s cybersecurity unit to guide nonprofit attendees through the basic cybersecurity essentials. This interactive workshop will explore best practices all nonprofits should have in place to ensure adequate security, focusing on the following:

·         Threat Awareness and Countermeasures

·         Donor / Member Data and protection

·         Cloud Storage and Mobile Security

“We are thrilled that NPower invited us to collaborate on Pro Bono Week 2014, especially given that it’s National Cyber Security Awareness month,” added Marian Merritt, Director, Cyber Education and Online Safety Programs at Symantec. “Symantec is committed to making the world a safer and better place, and as a leader in cybersecurity we are uniquely positioned to help educate nonprofits and share best practices.”

Workshop 2: Intro to Google for Nonprofits (Oct. 23rd from 1:00 pm- 2:30 pm)

The Google for Nonprofits program offers nonprofit organizations access to free or highly discounted tools that can help them improve their efficacy. The Community Corps helped design this hands-on workshop so nonprofits will be set up for success to utilize Google’s full suite of apps to address the following popular topics:

·         Attract more donors, volunteers and members with Google Grants and Adwords

·         Collaborate on documents, share files and safely back up your data using Google Apps

·         Work more efficiently with coworkers remotely in office, distributed staff

·         Drive supporters to specific calls to action

·         Track visitors and improve your website by discovering Google Analytics

“Google is proud to partner with NPower for Pro Bono Week 2014,” said Tanuja Gupta, Program Manager at Google. “NPower, through The Community Corps, is giving us ground floor access to nonprofits who can really benefit from tech training to help them work more effectively in their communities.”
