SHEBOYGAN, Wis., Nov. 3, 2014 /3BL Media/ – Local CITGO Marketer Quality State Oil (QSO) marked a quarter century supporting the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) by raising $73,000 through events and promotions in 2014. QSO once again teamed up with CITGO Petroleum Corporation, MDA ambassadors and Miss America representatives for in-store campaigns and golf outings to benefit the local Wisconsin chapter of the MDA.  Over the last 25 years, QSO has raised $1,000,000 in the fight against neuromuscular diseases.

“We have supported the MDA for 25 years and continue to make it a priority to contribute funds and time to help those who suffer from neuromuscular disease,” said Scott Stangel, wholesale marketing manager for Quality State Oil. “We have seen the effects firsthand and we strive to put an end to these debilitating illnesses. Our success this year is thanks to all the employees, customers and community members who donated and supported these campaigns and events. We will continue to do our part to help find a cure for these diseases and to help the families in our community affected by them.”

In March, QSO held its annual Shamrocks Against Dystrophy fundraiser at 18 participating Q Mart locations in the Sheboygan area, raising $33,000. During the promotion, customers purchased paper shamrocks which were posted around the store as a sign of their commitment and also enjoyed meet and greet events with MDA Ambassadors Myranda Gereau and Allison Naze and Miss Wisconsin 2013 Paula Mae Kuiper.

QSO continued its efforts into the summer with the 25th annual Quality State Oil/CITGO MDA Golf Challenge. On July 16, QSO representatives, MDA National Goodwill Ambassador Reagan Imhoff, golfers and special guest Miss Wisconsin Raeanna Johnson raised $40,000 at the Quit Qui OC Golf Club in Elkhart Lake, Wis.

All the funds raised during these events support programs for local families living with neuromuscular diseases. The money supports MDA research, physical therapy consultations, support groups, care programs and sending local children to the MDA summer camp.

“At CITGO we’ve been raising awareness and funds in the fight against muscular dystrophy for the last 28 years,” said Alan Flagg, assistant vice president of supply and marketing at CITGO. “It’s always very gratifying to have companies like Quality State Oil actively committed to the cause  and the support of these local families who are struggling with neuromuscular diseases.”
