(3BL Media / theCSRfeed) June 2, 2011 -  Vodafone Group plc (LON:VOD) publishes its Sustainability Report 2011 at: [http://www.reportalert.info/ra/profiles/Vodafone/2011/?ID=38714].

The report provides an overview of Vodafone's strategy and performance across 24 markets, and how it is performing against its sustainability strategy: creating sustainable societies, eco-efficiency and responsible, ethical and honest behaviour.

The report is supported by an extensive website [http://www.vodafone.com/sustainability] that covers all of Vodafone's most material sustainability issues, including an online data centre designed to give stakeholders a comprehensive view on performance.

Key highlights from the year include:

- Increasing access to telecommunications and the Internet by connecting over 250 million customers in emerging markets and developing products that make a real difference to people's lives for example WebBox a plug and play keyboard which provides low cost internet access via a television.
- Reducing carbon emissions by establishing more than 4 million machine to machine connections such as smart metering or smart logistics and continuing research into the development of smarter cities
- Launching Vodafone's successful money transfer service M-Pesa in South Africa, Fiji and Qatar, and a pilot in India. The service now has more than 20 million customers and transfers over US$ 500 million a month
- Continuing progress towards the 2020 target to reduce CO2 emissions by 50% in mature markets, and establishing an emerging markets target of a 20% reduction in CO2 intensity per network node by 2015
- Making sustainability issues a priority across the supply chain by championing industry-wide supplier transparency through GeSI/E-TASC, implementing its Code of Ethical Purchasing with all suppliers and introducing Environmental Principles to its terminals suppliers

The report also covers how Vodafone has dealt with the challenges of protecting customer privacy, freedom and rights while operating a network during times of civil unrest, and how the company continues to focus on a zero-fatality culture to improve the safety of its employees and contractors.

Vodafone would welcome views on its sustainability reporting and performance at sustainability@vodafone.com.
