Responsible Business Alliance Advances Climate Change Mitigation Efforts in Global Supply Chains

RBA Partners with Optera to Scale Greenhouse Gas Management for RBA Members and Suppliers

ALEXANDRIA, Va., October 4, 2022 /3BL Media/ - The Responsible Business Alliance (RBA) today announced the development of new greenhouse gas (GHG) management capabilities for global supply chains, in partnership with Optera.

The RBA’s more than 200 core corporate members across multiple industries and tens of thousands of their suppliers worldwide, combined with the Optera platform, makes the RBA program uniquely positioned to transform the industry’s response to climate change.

These new capabilities will support RBA members’ Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions calculations and help advance their sustainability efforts as part of a larger strategy to demystify the complexity of GHG management and bolster the capabilities of companies. The GHG management platform will enable RBA members to collect essential emissions information across all of their suppliers, enabling action deep in their supply chains. Suppliers will also have access to a self-guided Scope 1 and 2 tool to estimate their own inventories, providing additional visibility for RBA members. The platform’s emission calculation methodology will follow the recognized standards of the GHG Protocol and will use emission factors and coefficients backed by established data sources.

This program complements the RBA’s existing environmental tools and resources, including its environmental maturity framework, environmental and energy surveys, circular materials landscape assessment, and capacity-building tools.

“The development of these GHG management capabilities is reflective of the importance of climate-related issues to companies and the RBA’s leadership in supply chain sustainability,” said Rob Lederer, CEO of the Responsible Business Alliance. “We look forward to providing this important resource to members and their suppliers, to advance their sustainability efforts and improve environmental performance throughout global supply chains.”

“With regulations like CSRD and the upcoming SEC rule, corporations are seeking a solution for managing and reducing their Scope 3 emissions,” said Jason Denner, CEO of Optera. “By involving the RBA’s members’ suppliers directly, this program enables climate action across an entire industry rather than at a single company level. That’s the kind of scale we need to move the needle on climate change.”

The platform is scheduled to be available to members and their suppliers in Q1 2023 and will include integration with the RBA-Online sustainability data management system powered by G360.
