Latest Approval Adds to Full Suite of Climate Services

EMERYVILLE, Calif., July 10, 2018 /3BL Media/ – SCS Global Services (SCS), a leading international third-party certifier of environmental claims, is now authorized under the Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) program to verify greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions inventories for participating Airports. This accreditation is the latest addition to SCS’ broad suite of carbon footprint, carbon offset validation and verification, GHG management, and other climate-change related services.

Following years of working individually to address their local environmental impacts, airports are now working together around the globe to make further strides in managing, reducing and ultimately neutralizing their carbon footprints. First launched in 2009 by ACI EUROPE, the ACA is the only institutionally-endorsed, authoritative industry carbon management certification standard for airports. 198 airports globally are currently participating in the program, accounting for nearly 40% of global air passenger traffic annually.

The carbon footprint of each airport is extremely complex, reflecting the multitude of sources of GHG emissions, including thousands of flights take-offs and landings, the operation of hundreds of businesses, and transport for millions of passengers. Under the ACA process, each airport’s carbon footprint must be independently verified.

“We are excited to add ACA verification adds a crucial element to our portfolio of GHG services,” said Nicole Munoz, Managing Director of Environmental Certification Services at SCS Global Services. “We look forward to working with airports around the globe to support their overall sustainability performance goals with SCS’ suite of services.”

In addition to climate-related verifications, airports and their vendors can also tap SCS to conduct certification assessments under a wide assortment of sustainability programs, such as the Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS) and building product sustainability certifications, and learn more about their environmental footprints with advanced life cycle assessment.
