TerraPass Teams Up With College Football Playoff At The First-Ever National Championship Game
Together They Tackle Carbon Emissions to Reduce the Game’s Environmental Impact
Houston, TX, January 9, 2015 /3BL Media/ - TerraPass is pleased to announce that it has partnered with the College Football Playoff (CFP) to mitigate and reduce the emissions associated with the first-ever College Football Playoff National Championship, hosted at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington Texas on Monday, January 12, 2015. This is one of several sustainable best practices that the CFP has implemented under Playoff Green to reduce the game’s environmental impact.
In addition to implementing solid waste recycling, water conservation messaging, tree planting, and material repurposing on game day, AT&T Stadium will be “green” powered through the use of renewable energy certificates (RECs) provided by TerraPass. This is all part of the Playoff Green push. The RECs used at the championship game are being generated locally by wind farms in Texas. In addition, TerraPass is balancing all the flight emissions for both teams traveling to Texas by supporting a local landfill carbon offset project.

The College Football Playoff in partnership with TerraPass will offset the emissions for more than 1.5 million passenger flight miles for the national championship game. That is enough to fly over 92,000 football fields. The emissions from the air travel and the energy used on game day will be equivalent to the CO2 emissions of more than 20,000 propane tanks for tailgating barbeques.
“Colleges and universities are on the leading edge of sustainability across the country,” said Jack Groh, CFP’s Sustainability Consultant. “We have a responsibility to our audience, to the local host community and to the environment to do what we can create a positive ‘green’ impact surrounding our events.”

About the College Football Playoff
The College Football Playoff began with the 2014-15 season. The semifinals matched the No. 1 seed vs. No. 4, and No. 2 faced No. 3 in the semifinal games that rotated annually among the Peach Bowl, Cotton Bowl, Orange Bowl, Sugar Bowl, Rose Bowl and Fiesta Bowl. The first semifinals were held on January 1, 2015, at the Rose Bowl Game presented by Northwestern Mutual and the Allstate Sugar Bowl. The first national championship game will be January 12, 2015, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
