The World Environment Center and SGM Wuling Launch Cleaner Production Partnership to Improve Competitiveness and Performance

(3BL Media / theCSRfeed) Liuzhou, Guangxi, China - March 28, 2011 - The World Environment Center (WEC) and GM China and its joint venture SGM Wuling (SGMW) have launched a pilot project to provide training to SGMW’s supply chain through WEC’s signature “Green Supply Chain” project. The project is an extension of WEC’s innovative collaboration with GM-China and its partners to improve performance among SGMW’s China-based suppliers.  This project represents SGMW’s extension of its strategy to improve supplier performance and support China’s national commitments to improve energy efficiency and sustainable development.

WEC implements innovative sustainability programs in partnership with corporations and governments in Central and Latin America, Asia, Africa and Europe and has been achieving successful results with green supply chain efforts in China with GM and their subsidiaries since 2005.  

Through WEC and local partners, the China Eco-efficiency Research Center, the participating suppliers will receive direct training to reduce waste, carbon dioxide emissions, material and energy consumption, thus maximizing efficiencies and cost savings.

Mr. Shi Guoyong, Vice President of SGMW, indicated that in the automotive industry, “we all work together to create a greener environment by upgrading industrial supply chains and technology. The Green Supply Chain Pilot Program not only responds to national environmental regulation to reduce energy consumption and emission, but also effectively improves the manufacturing technology as well as reduces cost in the supply chain. We hope that we can provide the best products to the consumers, and create better environment for the community. We believe that through such program, we are creating more value for our customers and communities.”
