To Make the Most of an EHS & Sustainability Software Investment, Don’t Skimp on the Implementation

March 7, 2018 /3BL Media/ - Software is a powerful tool for accelerating EHS & Sustainability performance, but even the best tool can fail if it’s not implemented well, according to a new NAEM report that was published today.

At the heart of the findings in NAEM’s “Ready, Set, Implement: How to Successfully Deploy an EHS & Sustainability Software System” is that success—or failure— often comes down to how well the company mapped the system to its core processes, trained its users and sold the value to the organization.

“Technology is only one piece of the data management equation,” said NAEM Executive Director Carol Singer Neuvelt. “Those companies who are making the most of their software investment also have a knowledgeable internal champion, strong systems and an engaged workforce.”

The report teaches leaders how to avoid common pitfalls by outlining the six key implementation steps, from strategy to testing to user engagement. It also features benchmarking data from NAEM’s biannual software survey as well as advice from experienced peers and implementation experts.

Introducing software to EHS&S management can be a distinct advantage to companies, Ms. Neuvelt said, because it gives internal managers the ability to set ambitious goals and track progress in areas such as: environmental compliance, greenhouse gas reduction, product stewardship and external reporting.

It is now available for download from naem.org thanks to distribution sponsorship from Cority, Dakota Software, Intelex and Enablon.

“NAEM is committed to developing tools and resources that help EHS & Sustainability leaders be more effective in their jobs,” Ms. Neuvelt said. “Our financial sponsors support our mission to make this valuable information available as broadly as possible.”
