West Palm Beach, Fla., March 3, 2014 /3BL Media/ – Building owners can obtain funding for energy saving improvements through the Florida Green Energy Works PACE Program, which is offered in collaboration with Trane, a leading global provider of indoor comfort solutions and services and a brand of Ingersoll Rand.

The program enables qualified commercial building owners to assess their opportunity for money-saving improvements through a free building audit provided by Trane. They can also potentially access program funding to implement recommended upgrades. Trane has made an in-kind grant contribution and serves as a technical consultant for the program.

EcoCity Partners secured a nearly $700,000 Better Buildings Initiative award from the U.S. Department of Energy to launch the program in collaboration with Trane, the University of Florida and specialty finance company, Clean Fund. Funding is available for energy efficiency, renewable energy, water efficiency and wind resistance improvements.

“Research demonstrates that an energy efficient building environment not only reduces costs, but also provides a more comfortable and productive workplace for building occupants,” said Fernando Lagomasino, Trane Florida district general manager.

Projects are eligible from among five types of commercial properties:

  • Retail
  • Office
  • Lodging
  • Food service
  • Outpatient healthcare

The building must be located in a participating jurisdiction and participants currently include: Boynton Beach, Delray Beach, Fellsmere, Gulfport, Lake Worth, Lantana, Mangonia Park, Martin County, West Palm Beach, Sebastian, Stuart and Tequesta.  Broward County is expected to join the program within the next several months. More information can be found at www.floridagreenenergyworks.com.

The Florida Green Energy Works program will fund up to 100 percent of available equity in the property in order to facilitate the program goal of reducing property energy costs by 20 percent.

Eligible technologies include:

  • Energy Efficiency: windows, doors; insulation, roofing, lighting, refrigeration, elevators, pool pumps and heaters and heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems
  • Water efficiency: irrigation systems, restaurant equipment
  • Renewable energy: solar photovoltaic solutions, wind turbines
  • Wind resistance: roof deck bracing, building envelope upgrades, high impact doors and windows

Building owners have until March 31, 2014, to apply for a free energy audit.
