BOSTON, September 12, 2013 /3BL Media/ – Ceres announced today that its board of directors has approved Xylem Inc., a major global water technology company, as the newest member of the Ceres Company Network. Companies that join Ceres’ network work to further integrate environmental and social performance into their business strategies and initiatives.

Xylem, based in White Plains, NY, is a leading provider of technology and equipment solutions for the world’s most pressing water challenges. Its products serve a wide range of sectors and address the full cycle of water, from collection, distribution and use to the return of water to the environment. In joining the Ceres Company Network, Xylem has committed to improving its sustainability disclosure and overall performance on water-saving strategies and other sustainability challenges.

“Xylem is at the forefront of creating sustainable solutions in the water sector, and Ceres looks forward to working with the company to continue to strengthen its performance on these issues,” said Mindy Lubber, President of Ceres. “We’re also excited about working with Xylem to establish a corporate level stakeholder engagement process to provide critical external input on its sustainability initiatives.”

Xylem has demonstrated progress within its own operations, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by more than 25 percent and water use reduction of nearly 10 percent since its launch in 2011, and plans on driving additional progress through the company’s global supply chain management program. Xylem develops products specifically aimed at solving key water challenges and has the opportunity to integrate sustainability more formally into the product development process.

“We are honored to be added to the Ceres network of companies,” said Steven Loranger, CEO and president of Xylem.  “As a leader in water, sustainability helps drive the core of our business.  And because we see the benefits of balancing short- and long-term thinking with water issues, it's natural to bring the same mindset to all areas of our business.  Our products help our customers achieve their sustainability goals, and we are driving our sustainability program to all levels of the organization.
