Applications Now Open for Global Leaders To Engage with India’s Most Inspiring Social Entrepreneurs

MUMBAI, INDIA, December 19, 2012 /3BL Media/ - Applications are now open for leading global executives, academics, and nonprofit leaders to travel to India this February to engage with some of the world’s most inspiring social entrepreneurs. From 22 February 2012—2 March 2012, this highly qualified group will travel to Bangalore, Chennai, and Pondicherry, meeting the founders and staff of social ventures; discussing, debating, and reflecting on pivotal issues; and taking part in vibrant cultural experiences. Journey members will leave India with a fresh perspective; connections to an inspiring network of more than 200 global leaders; and the inspiration and know-how to have a profound impact in their work.

The rich array of award-winning social ventures visited by the leaders on this journey will include Aravind Eye Care Systems, which treats 70% of its 2.7 million patients for free; SELCO India, which is pioneering sustainable energy solutions for the poor; and Industree Crafts, India’s leading craft retailer supporting the livelihoods of rural producers. They will also include Dream a Dream, which empowers vulnerable children through the development of life skills; Alchemy India, which addresses India’s great unemployment challenge; and Milaap, which provides loans to the poor at 50% cheaper than competitors.
 
Past journey participants have called the experience “transformative” and “life-changing,” citing the irreplaceable value of on-the-ground interaction. "Don't waste your money on conferences,” says Sue White, Head of Social Enterprise at the UK Department of Health. “Come on a Journey for Change. You will see, touch and feel the transformational potential of social entrepreneurship." In addition to insights, journey participants come away with concrete connections and opportunities. For example, Biplab Das, Chairman at Coastal Bank, walked away with an opportunity to collaborate with a financial partner in India.

Journeys for Change takes international leaders on transformational journeys to help them create greater profit and impact in the world. Since 2005, the organisation has run journeys visiting and learning from some of India’s most inspiring social entrepreneurs. Participants have come from organisations as diverse as Nike, JPMorgan, Mercy Corps, Novo Nordisk and Habitat for Humanity. Its alumni network consists of more than 200 socially-conscious leaders spanning four continents.
