Cleveland, OH – BrownFlynn is pleased to announce that Principal & Co-owner Barb Brown is a recipient of the 2009 Most Powerful & Influential Women of Ohio award. Barb and 15 other women were chosen out of more than 50 nominations from across the state, by a committee of for-profit and non-profit executives and professionals.

The criteria for the award sought women who:

    • Provide leadership excellence in the public and/or private sectors
    • Sustain a record of accomplishments and/or contributions to their field of work throughout the scope of their career
    • Have clout within their organization in terms of significant impact on revenues, profitability and/or direction of their organization
    • Demonstrate leadership and commitment to community well-being and/or high visibility in the community
    • Exhibit and demonstrate a commitment the highest ethical standards and professional excellence

Originally from Chicago, Brown came to Cleveland to attend John Carroll University. Before founding BrownFlynn in 1996, Barb spent six years with National City Corporation where she served as co-vice president and manager of the corporate communications department. At BrownFlynn, Brown works with her business partner, Margie Flynn, to foster an environment where both employees and clients feel respected, energized and empowered. “This award means a lot to me,” comments Brown. “My entire career, I have always tried to positively impact the professional lives of the women that work for me and this recognition focuses on those efforts. I could not enjoy the successes we have had at BrownFlynn if they were only mine. I hope I always carry as I climb.”  Brown and her husband reside in South Euclid with their three children.

Award winners will be announced and recognized at the 2nd Annual Ohio Diversity & Leadership Conference in Columbus, OH, on November 5, 2009. The conference features keynote speaker Dr. Cornel West, professor at Princeton University and bestselling author of “Race Matters”.
