Climate Counts Rates 145 of the Largest Companies; Accenture Donates $1 Million for Job Training of Disabled Japanese; Net Impact Challenges College Students with “Small Steps, Big Wins” Campaign - CSR Minute for December 12, 2012
Five of six top companies rated by Climate Counts—Unilever, Nike, UPS, Levi’s, and L’Oreal—have reported year-on-year revenue growth from 2010 to 2011 while meeting aggressive targets to cut emissions. Climate Counts scores the largest 145 companies by revenue in 16 industry sectors on their actions to address climate change. Other sector leaders include Heineken, Johnson & Johnson, Starbucks, and Bank of America. The organization’s sixth annual scoring also finds that 66 percent of rated companies have sustainability strategies, compared to 25 percent in 2007, the year Climate Counts began the ratings.
The Association for Aid and Relief, Japan has received $1 million from Accenture and the Accenture Foundation to help the organization provide vocational training, business skills, and job placements to 2,700 persons with disabilities. The award is part of Accenture’s “Skills to Succeed” program, which aims to equip 250,000 people worldwide with business skills by 2015.
Small steps, big wins—that’s what Net Impact hopes 900 college students at 50 universities who have joined its Campus Challenge will produce in this academic year. The campaign promotes the taking of small, simple actions that collectively make big social and environmental impacts. So far, 1,700 such actions have been taken. Net Impact empowers a new generation to create positive change in the workplace and, through world.Net, empowers students to act locally through chapter networks and to connect globally online.
