Deutsche Bank Spent Nearly €100 Million On Social Projects In 2010

May 26, 2011 8:09 AM EDT

Deutsche Bank spent nearly €100 million on socially beneficial projects last year, as outlined in the Corporate Social Responsibility Report the bank has now published.

'We regard these investments in society as investments in our own future', said Dr. Josef Ackermann, Chairman of the Management Board and the Group Executive Committee of Deutsche Bank.

The Bank has been particularly active in the following areas:

Education and Equal Opportunities

Last year Deutsche Bank invested €35.4 million in education projects, with the number of participants increasing by 20 per cent on the previous year. As part of numerous initiatives – particularly the new Fair Talent programme – talented children and young people from socially disadvantaged backgrounds are given support to achieve education goals which would, in most cases, otherwise be unattainable for them.

Volunteering

In 2010 more than 17,000 employees of Deutsche Bank – more than one in five – volunteered in around 3,200 projects around the world. Projects included visiting schools to promote a greater understanding of finance and providing advice to charitable organizations.

Art and Music

Deutsche Bank has implemented a new art concept at its headquarters in Frankfurt after employees recently moved back into these landmark towers. 1,500 works by 100 young artists from more than 40 countries are on display there and can also be viewed by the general public. Through the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra’s Digital Concert Hall, the Bank is making concerts accessible around the world at affordable prices. For example, 15,000 people around the world were able to watch the Season Opening Concert in 2010. To date, a total of nearly 100 concerts have been broadcast live via the Digital Concert Hall.

Sustainability

For many years now, Deutsche Bank has committed itself to sustainability in its core business activities and beyond. As a principal partner of “Solar Impulse”, the Bank is supporting the first manned flight around the world in a solar-powered aircraft, providing funding and assistance through its global network of contacts in business and politics. This flight – which does not require a single drop of aviation fuel and does not lead to any polluting emissions – is not only an incredible feat of technical ingenuity, but is also a symbol of the potential of renewable energy. In 2010, with the first flight of a solar-powered aircraft to fly both during the day and at night, Solar Impulse reached an important milestone in its endeavour to circumnavigate the globe.

The Report is now also available for the first time as a special iPad version, with a navigation system providing access to videos, images, and photos.
