MIDDLEBURY, VT – Historic Green New Orleans has been awarded $5,000 from the Brighter Planet Project Fund, a micro-granting program focused on fighting climate change. The project, Historic Green’s Spring Greening, will coordinate a ten day event in which volunteers work on implementing energy saving strategies in homes in the area, as well as three separate project sites. They will help build a LEED platinum certified community resource center, install recycled covering and renewable lighting at a local playground, and assist the Sierra Club with a clean-up and restoration effort at a swamp that is critical to stormwater retention. The event will take place from March 9th - 19th.
Powered by Brighter Planet’s social website to nominate and vote on projects of merit, the Project Fund seeds the growth of the climate movement from the ground up. With nine worthy projects nominated this month, members cast the most votes for Historic Green’s Spring Greening. Brighter Planet customers endow the Project Fund by using the company’s products and services.
Brighter Planet community members vote for next month’s grant recipient starting March 1st. Submissions are now open for March’s Project Fund grant of up to $5,146.
