Conference to drive discussion on the competitive nature of the certification landscape
(Justmeans.com) May 17, 2011 – New York, NY – Justmeans is proud to announce the participation of UTZ Certified at the Certification Consumption and Change Conference on May 24 in Washington DC, an event will bring together thought leaders from ethical certifications, social enterprises, leading brands, and NGOs to discuss and plan the future of ethical certification.
Han de Groot is Executive director of UTZ Certified, a leading sustainability standard in agricultural commodities. UTZ Certified mainly focuses on coffee, cocoa and tea and also provides traceability services for palm oil and cotton. Mr. de Groot joined UTZ Certified in early 2010 and previously worked in the Dutch ministry for Agriculture, Nature and Food, as a deputy director for Nature, as well the Dutch NGO OXFAM NOVIB.
UTZ Certified launched in 2002 and is the largest coffee certifier in the world. UTZ Certified works to set a baseline standard for responsible coffee, cocoa and tea growing and sourcing practices. Coffee certified by UTZ is currently sold in more than 20 countries, including the Netherlands, Belgium, France, UK, Scandinavia, Switzerland, Japan, United States and Canada.
Attendees of the Certification Consumption and Change Conference will hear a conversation between Mr. de Groot, Jennifer Martin, Executive Director for the Center for Resource Solutions (Green-e) and Kerry Coughlin, Regional Director, Americas, for the Marine Stewardship Council. The format of the conference allows attendees an extended period to question the panelists following a moderated discussion.
The Certification Consumption and Change Conference will take place on May 24th at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. The conference brings together representatives from top brands that source certified ingredients and eco-label their products, leading ethical certifiers, government agencies and NGOs, and the service providers that make reporting and compliance possible. Conference attendees will enjoy a full day of panel discussions designed to help shape the future of ethical certifications.
