The 4th World Conservation Congress concluded in Barcelona this week with a call for stronger action on biodiversity conservation, protected areas, ecosystem services, indigenous peoples and climate change.
ICMM took a leading role in emphasising the value of private sector participation in delivering conservation outcomes, alongside the scientific, NGO and indigenous communities. ICMM tools - the Good Practice Guide for Mining and Biodversity, the Community Development Toolkit and the new ICMM Mine Closure Toolkit - were all showcased at the event.
The Congress, which attracted over eight thousand participants from conservation groups, governments, NGOs and indigenous peoples groups, sought to develop a compelling vision of how the world can be in the next two decades.
