(Justmeans.com / CSR News) - How can mining companies improve their biodiversity performance? The question is answered in considerable detail in a new ICMM publication, Good Practice Guidance for Mining and Biodiversity. The 142-page guide has been produced as part of an extensive dialogue between ICMM and the World Conservation Union (IUCN) which has been set up to explore different aspects of biodiversity conservation in the mining and metals sector. ICMM Secretary General Paul Mitchell says, "Demonstrating a commitment to biodiversity conservation is now an essential element of sustainable development for the mining and metals industry. ICMM members are committed to improving their performance in this area and educating stakeholders about the value of biodiversity conservation." The guide provides an informative, accessible and highly practical reference source on biodiversity which can be used by mining companies at all stages of their operations, from initial exploration to mine closure planning and implementation. It divides into four colour-coded sections: To obtain a copy of the guide, email info@icmm.com. |
