(3BL Media) Las Vegas, NV - August 21, 2012 - MGM Resorts International employees loaded a convention center ballroom with more than 100,000 school supplies and distributed the donated items to more than 700 teachers of high-need Clark County School District (CCSD) schools.  On average, CCSD teachers personally spend $1,000 each year purchasing classroom supplies. MGM Resorts employees volunteered to help stockpile the teachers’ classrooms and give their students greater access to the supplies they need to excel.

“Supporting public school teachers is a major priority for our company because public education is the very cornerstone of our community,” said Jim Murren, Chairman and CEO of MGM Resorts International. “We could never tell our teachers ‘Thank You’ enough but today is one of our many attempts at trying.”

The school supply drive was held in conjunction with MGM Resorts’ annual Educator Appreciation Day. The event is organized to show CCSD teachers how much MGM Resorts employees and our community at-large appreciate their service.

In addition to collecting school supply items, teachers had the opportunity to win free raffle items every 15 minutes, which included prizes such as: tickets to Circus Circus’ Adventure Dome, a one-year membership to the Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art, annual passes to The Mirage’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat, and a classroom lesson hosted by the Shark Reef Aquarium.  All teachers attending the event were invited to visit The Mirage’s Secret Garden & Dolphin Habitat free of charge.

Nonprofit agencies and other businesses participated in the Appreciation Day activities and informed the teachers of additional educational resources available for public school students and teachers in the community.
