Conference to drive discussion on the need for risk management
(Justmeans.com) April 20, 2011 – New York, NY – Justmeans is proud to announce the participation of the USDA’s National Organic Program at the Certification Consumption and Change Conference on May 24 in Washington DC, that will bring together thought leaders from social enterprises, leading brands, and certifying bodies to discuss and plan the future of ethical certification.
Mark Bradley is a 32-year employee of the USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service where he currently serves as Assistant to the Deputy Administrator of the National Organic Program (NOP). Mark has served as an NOP Program Manager, Director of the Accreditation and International Activities Division, and Director of the Compliance and Enforcement Division. He was part of the technical negotiating team for the U.S. - Canadian organic equivalence agreement and was responsible for establishing and managing international recognition agreements with foreign government organic accrediting bodies.
The USDA's National Organic Program (NOP) develops, implements, and administers national production, handling, and labeling standards. Organic production integrates cultural, biological, and mechanical practices that foster cycling of resources, promotion of ecological balance, and conservation of biodiversity. Today, 2% of the U.S. food supply is grown using organic farming methods and over the past decade, sales of organic products have increased 20% annually.
Attendees of the Certification Consumption and Change Conference will hear Mr. Bradley in conversation with Scott McDougall, President of Terra Choice, and Robert Rice, the Director of Bird Friendly Certification at the Smithsonian Institute. The format of the conference allows attendees an extended period to question the panelists following a moderated discussion.
