(Justmeans.com / CSR News) - Founded in 1989, FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is a nonprofit group that designs accessible, innovative programs that motivate young people to pursue education and career opportunities in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) fields while building self-confidence, knowledge and life skills.

MOE team photoThe Miracle Workerz team, also known as “MOE” — an acronym for “Miracle of Engineering” — was recognized for the following accomplishments:

  • The team was seeded fourth out of 44 teams and selected by the No. 1 seed to join their alliance in the elimination rounds.
  • The MOE alliance made it to the finals and won the event.
  • The MOE team was awarded the Motorola Quality Award, which recognizes a team and robot demonstrating quality design and performance during the event.

At the earlier-held Chesapeake Regional FIRST event in Baltimore, Md., the team received the Gracious Professionalism Award, which celebrates the team who helps other teams.

The MOE pit crew was active at both Baltimore and Philadelphia events, helping other teams with mechanical design, wiring and programming, as well as supplying teams with parts and supplies.

DuPont volunteers mentor students to help them understand the engineering to build robots for participation in the regional and national U.S. FIRST competitions.

“We are very proud of the students, mentors and parents for continuing our history of excellence with MOE, and we want to thank DuPont Engineering and the DuPont Center for Collaborative Research & Education (CCRE) for their continued support,” said John Larock, staffing manager - DuPont Talent Acquisition.
