Novo Nordisk has started the discussion to shape a new set of sustainability goals to replace the Millennium Development Goals. At the event “Business, the MDGs, and Beyond,” held last week in New York to coincide with the opening of the UN 2012 General Assembly, the company’s Executive Vice President, Lise Kingo, called for a systems perspective to future sustainability goals, partnerships as the preferred mode of action, and the inclusion of human health as an integral part of the future global agenda.

A new health care model that rewards doctors based on the outcomes of their treatment is promise to cut costs and improve care for patients. The “Accountable Care Organization” model, according to a new study by researchers at the Dartmouth Atlas Project and The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice, achieves savings by shortening hospital stays and reducing the number of hospital readmissions and procedures patients undergo.

Abbott has been named one of the Top 20 Employers by the journal Science for the ninth time. Abbott ranked number 15 overall, receiving high marks for quality research, social responsibility, and company loyalty. Based on the opinions of working scientists, the annual survey rates the most respected employers in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry.
