PepsiCo Wins World Water Week Award; WalMart Joins Field to Market Alliance; UN Global Compact Launches Water Action Hub - CSR Minute for September 4, 2012
PepsiCo has been recognized for its water stewardship initiatives at World Water Week. The Stockholm Industry Water Award honors a business sector for sustainable water management, improved performance in production, and innovative approaches in water process technologies.
WalMart has joined with other Fortune 500 companies, including Cargill and Kellogg, in the Field to Market Alliance to make agriculture more sustainable. The group was started three years ago by the Keystone Center to reduce the use of natural resources and improve productivity. It includes farm groups, grain handlers, and food makers. WalMart is the first retailer to join.
The UN Global Compact’s CEO Water Mandate has launched a Water Action Hub, an online platform to unite stakeholders on water issues. Through the Hub, companies, governments, and NGO’s can connect on critical water projects in specific river basins around the world. The CEO Water Mandate has also released a Guide to Water-Related Collective Action, a resource for a step-by-step approach to action.
