Planet Green Launches 24-Hour Eco-Programming with VERGE

(Justmeans.com / CSR News) -

March 15, 2010 – Discovery Communication’s eco-lifestyle network, Planet Green, announced the launch of its new VERGE programming.  The three-hour primetime block will feature “misfits, mavericks and innovators who challenge the status quo and are on the verge of changing their world and creating a better tomorrow.”

Debuting March 29, 2010, VERGE aims to inspire its viewers to become emotionally invested in its compelling stories, creating a ripple effect that could change public mindsets about conscious living.  The ultimate goal is motivating the public to begin taking actions towards sustainability.

As the first and only mainstream media network that focuses on sustainability, Planet Green reaches 50 million homes through it’s television content and an even larger audience through its online content, which includes PlanetGreen.com and its sister site TreeHugger.com.

As for the on-air content, Planet Green says Verge will be “forward-looking”, with a refreshed graphics package, innovative logo delivery (as exemplified by the program’s “emerging E”), and an eclectic mix of eco-interstitials with program mentions.  VERGE’s premier week lineup will include shows such as “Blood, Sweat, and Takeaways” – revealing the effect that mass produced food has on others, and “Operation Wild” – following Florida Fish & Wildlife as they protect one of the country’s last great national reserves, the Everglades.

Laura Michalchyshyn, President and GM of Planet Green, says the launch of VERGE and the network’s switch to 24-hour programming represents a natural evolution for the company. "We're expanding our network dialogue to include stories of passionate people doing forward-thinking things. These are the change makers who are inspiring us to think differently, sustainably and positively for the future - whether they're chefs, urbanites-****-farmers, fashion designers or technological innovators. Audiences will be amazed by their stories."
