SolarCity Expands in New York; FuelCell Energy Gets $6 million from DOE; Sustainable Energy Conference in Michigan - Energy Minute for October 11, 2012

SolarCity has announced a major expansion in New York state with new locations in Westchester County and Long Island to add to its existing operations center in Albany. The expansion will make SolarCity’s set of affordable clean energy services, from purchase to leasing of solar panel installations, more widely available throughout the state.

FuelCell Energy has been awarded a $6 million contract from the Department of Energy to continue research and development of stationary solid oxide fuel cell modules. The Solid State Energy Conversion Alliance is a collaboration between the federal government, private industry, and academic to develop megawatt-class solid oxide fuel cell power plants to efficiently and cleanly generate electricity from coal syngas.

A conference titled “Sustainable Energy for Sustainable Development” will be held October 21st through the 23rd on the Michigan State Campus in East Lansing as part of the UN’s designation of the International Year of Sustainable Energy for All. The event will focus on the importance of increasing sustainable access to energy, energy efficiency, and renewable energy at the local, national, regional, and international levels.
